Farma’s Valley – Nature reserve of the provinces of Siena and Grosseto

Located between Monticiano and Roccastrada (GR), it comprises about 1,500 hectares of valleys and hills; a rugged and wild area where the Farma stream, the main tributary of the Merse River, flows. The particular conformation of the area makes it a perfect habitat for some animal species that are rare in Italy: the reserve is home to the Apuan alpine newt, the spectacled salamander, and the italic frog. Among mammals: the otter, greater and lesser horseshoe, marten, skunk and wild cat. Also not to be underestimated is that in this protected area it is possible to spot the great spotted woodpecker, owl, and sparrowhawk.
